In order to continue our tradition of giving back to the educational community, SSATB is delighted to partner with the Association of Independent Schools of Greater Washington (AISGW) to present this year’s Annual Meeting Welcome and a Book Drive for The Reading Connection.
Annual Meeting Welcome
Wednesday, September 30, 12:00 - 5:00 pm
Washington DC-area SSATB member schools and AISGW members will meet and greet conference attendees during the Annual Meeting Registration on Wednesday afternoon.
Founded in 1951, the Association of Independent Schools of Greater Washington (AISGW) provides support to independent schools in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia. Their mission is to advance the collective interests of member schools in the capitol region by promoting high professional standards and practices, encouraging cooperative endeavors, enhancing member schools' standing in the community, and safeguarding their independence.
Community Book Drive
Bring a new book or make a donation to this important literacy program! AISGW members and representatives from The Reading Connection will be on hand to collect new books and monetary donations. Credit cards will be accepted. For each monetary or book donation, you can fill out a bookplate with your name to be placed inside.
The Reading Connection (TRC) was founded in 1989 by a group of educators as a service project of the Greater Washington Reading Council. They noticed the children they taught who lived in homeless shelters were unfamiliar with books and faced huge obstacles in learning how to read. Volunteers first began reading with children in a small emergency shelter located in Arlington, Virginia. Over the years, TRC has expanded the Read-Aloud program to 13 shelters and community centers in the Washington metropolitan area. To learn more about TRC, visit their website at www.thereadingconnection.org.
Please note that although any book is welcomed, The Reading Connection has a wish list for specific books online: visit http://www.thereadingconnection.org/index.php /How You Can Help/Wish List for the complete list. Please do not send books in advance to SSATB or AISGW. |
